Artist Statement
My work is an ode to the quiet processes, the tragedy and the exuberance of nature.
Through my ceramic sculptures I seek to awaken a renewed sense of wonder for all the developments, shapes and colors that surround us. Processes such as a seed germinating and withering, a caterpillar transforming into a butterfly, and a chick hatching from its egg deserve our attention once more. Scales, wings, bones and fins may be recognizable in my work, but the whole remains an enigma. These mysterious forms create space to pause and reflect on the natural processes of growth and change.
Especially in these fast-paced, turbulent times, I believe it’s important to linger on the subtle, the small, so that we can find comfort and wonder in the ordinary around us and maintain our faith in an age-old, ever-transforming world.
